Ever-present on those pesky “most disturbing movies” lists, Begotten almost became a victim of its own success. The film’s demiurge, God Killing Himself, adorns the covers of the old VHS and DVD releases; the high-contrast black-and-white portrait of a bemasked and bleeding figure clearly invites the black metal crowd, gorehounds, and whoever rented Faces of Death last week.
