After a numbing first couple months in 2025 cinema, March struck back in a big way, giving theatergoers a number of new films from idiosyncratic up-and-comers, international mainstays, and even a few auteurs to boot. With new projects dropping from the likes of Bong Joon Ho, Bruno Dumont, Steven Soderbergh, Matías Piñeiro, Lou Ye, and Alain Guiraudie, there was no shortage of Cannes-approved filmmakers to entice viewers into seats, and that’s before mentioning the latest offerings from genrehead favorites like Paul W.S. Anderson, David Ayer, and Jaume Collet-Serra, among others. Plus, March also offered the opportunity to see if the latest Disney live-action adaptation would once again establish new lows (not quite), assess whether the Russo brothers would continue their post-Marvel trend of delivering the most expensive nothings of the year (yes indeed), and discover what exactly rascal and rogue Harmony Korine is up to this time (just watch…). A few of our favorite films from the 2024 festival circuit — and likely heavy-hitters on our year’s end Best Of lists — also touched down in U.S. theaters this month. Find out what we loved, what be loathed, and everything else we took the time to write about in our full slate of March reviews (+features) below.
